Research Interests

My broad research interest focuses on the linkages between daily stress and health during adulthood.  More specifically, I view stress and health as within person processes that fluctuate over time. In my research I am interested in examining sources of variation within person (e.g. type of stressor) and between people (e.g. personality, gender, SES). I am particularly interested in how personal control influences the stress process. Finally, in addition to these topics, I am also interested in how these processes develop across the adult life course.

  • Daily stress processes across the lifespan.
  • Intraindividual differences in stress reactivity as it relates to well-being in three realms.
    • Psychological (i.e. negative affect)
    • Physical (i.e. daily symptoms)
    • Physiological (i.e. HPA-axis regulation of cortisol)
  • Interindividual differences in stress reactivity across the lifespan (allostatic load).
  • The role of personal control in the stress process.
